Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the newly appointed Congress general secretary and poll manager for Eastern Uttar Pradesh, is arriving in Lucknow next week.
According to party sources, Priyanka would stay in the UP capital for a few days and confabulate with party leaders and cadres before finalising the strategy in run up to the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
Recently, Priyanka Gandhi had conferred with party leaders in New Delhi before touching base in Lucknow in her new capacity as in charge for Eastern UP.
On January 23, she was appointed to her post by All India Congress Committee (AICC) president and elder brother Rahul Gandhi to reenergise cadres in run up to elections. Former union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia was anointed in charge for Western UP.
There are also talks of Priyanka holding a roadshow in Lucknow to garner support for the party. Congress, the erstwhile ruling party in UP, merely reduced to a shadow of its glorious past with the emergence of caste based political milieu in the late 1980s.
So far, Priyanka has restricted her activity to the traditional Congress’ pocket boroughs of Amethi and Rae Bareli, which are represented by Rahul Gandhi and her mother Sonia Gandhi respectively.
The recent successes of Congress in big Hindi heartland states of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, where it displaced ruling BJP from power, has definitely lifted the morale of its workers in UP.
