The 66th National Film Awards would be declared after the completion of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
Owing to the imposition of the model code of conduct, the announcement of the awards has been kept in abeyance.
Declared in the month of April every year, the selections for these awards are made by an independent jury comprising eminent filmmakers and film personalities.
This year elections to the 17th Lok Sabha and the legislative assemblies of four states are currently underway.
The model code of conduct facilitates level playing field to all political parties and inter alia seeks to ensure the power of media is not used in such a manner which affects the general conduct and level playing field during the election process.
