Sahara India Group today announced entry into the domestic electric vehicles business to capitalise on the central government’s roadmap of promoting green technologies in urban mobility.
Sahara Evols, the diversified Group’s electric vehicles wing, will market electric two wheelers (scooters and motorcycles), three wheelers and cargo vehicles, starting with tier II and III towns.
Their prices range between Rs 60,000-Rs 150,000 based on different variants, while the average running cost is pegged at 20 paise/km.
“First, we aim to set up an ecosystem for our electric vehicles encompassing sales, services and charging point networks,” Sahara Evols CEO Aditya Banerjee said talking to the newspersons here.
Meanwhile, the company is also looking for sewing tie-ups with vendors and partners in China, South Korea and Taiwan for souring the electric vehicles and other spares, including batteries.
Currently, the new range of electric vehicle is being sold from the offices of different Sahara Group companies, numbering almost 5,000 across India. Sahara Group employees and agents totalling 1.4 million are the priority target customers of Sahara Evols.
