Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to launch a drive to check the quality of bottled and packaged water being sold in the state.
The CM also issued instructions to officials for an awareness drive against the menace of reused cooking oil and adulteration in food items to curb health hazards.
Chairing a review meeting here yesterday, he directed the state food safety and drug administration (FSDA) department to set up modern testing labs in every division of the state within 6 months, so that food and drug samples could be tested promptly and locally.
Yogi stressed the need to appoint a drug controller in the department, who would be tasked with determining the state drug policy and its implementation.
He further noted the licensing system in FSDA should be fortified and made online for transparency, minimising human intervention and time bound processing of applicants. Besides, the concerned officials be held accountable if licenses were not issued as per the fixed timeframe.
