To promote indigenous textiles, the Yogi Adityanath government has mooted a new policy for handloom and powerloom sector in Uttar Pradesh.
UP MSME and textile minister Sidharth Nath Singh recently directed officials to prepare the draft of a new policy, which should be attractive, pragmatic and transparent so that it benefits the state handloom and powerloom weavers and artisans.
He instructed officials to study existing policies and rules with regards to the sector for preparing the draft policy document.
At the same time, he stressed on the need for developing a user friendly and slick website, apart from roping in professional fashion models to promote handloom products.
The government will also take steps to cover weavers and artisans under the different incentive schemes to supplement their income and arrest their migration to other states for employment.
Meanwhile, Singh expressed displeasure over delay in the transfer of land for proposed Textile Park in Farrukhabad district. The project is estimated to cost Rs 200 crore.
