Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), the largest public sector steelmaker, has posted its highest ever monthly sales of 1.68 million tonnes (MT) in December 2019.
According to SAIL chairman Anil Kumar Chaudhary, despite the ‘challenging steel market’ conditions, the company had exhibited resilient performance consistently.
The sales of 1.68 MT represented a growth of 47% over corresponding period last year. Incidentally, SAIL had posted a 36% year-on-year jump in sales in November 2019 too.
During the nine months of 2019-20 (Apr-Dec), SAIL supplied 925,000 tonnes of rails to the Indian Railways against the total supply of 985,000 tonnes during the entire 2018-19 financial year.
To cater the growing demand of the Indian Railways, SAIL is gearing up to enhance production of rails substantially, he informed.
