UP sanctions Rs 200 crore for electricity to farmers’ tube wells

In a pro-farm measure, the Yogi Adityanath government has sanctioned Rs 200 crore to the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) for supplying electricity to the private tube wells of farmers.

The amount is sanctioned on a quarterly basis under the ongoing state subsidy scheme. UP agriculture minister Surya Pratap Shahi has directed the agriculture department to issue a formal order in this regard.

Whereas, Rs 100 crore of the outstanding subsidy amount of Rs 300 crore for the current quarter, (November 2019-January 2020), had already been sanctioned, the remaining portion of Rs 200 crore has now been sanctioned.

Meanwhile, the department has been instructed to upload the details of beneficiaries covered under the subsidy scheme.
