UP government adopts Gujarat model to woo NRIs for investment

Lucknow / June 5, 2020

The Yogi Adityanath government has decided to adopt the Gujarat model to woo the Non Resident Indians (NRI) of UP origin for attracting investment and forging mutually fruitful alliances.

According to UP micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME), export promotion, khadi and NRI minister Sidharth Nath Singh, the state government has already created a template based on the Gujarat model to integrate the UP origin NRIs with the landlocked state.

“Just like Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his earlier stint as the Gujarat chief minister had taken steps to unify the state’s NRIs for augmenting investment, we have also prepared a similar roadmap under the leadership of our CM Shri Yogi Adityanath,” he observed.

Soon, the UP NRI department will launch a dedicated website for the purpose and it will also be linked with the NRI portal of the Centre. A mobile phone version will also be launched simultaneously, he informed.

“The proposed website will serve as the communication hub for our NRIs and prove to be a game changer in attracting fresh investment in UP,” Singh underlined while mandating that the portal should be ready within a week, so that the CM could inaugurate it.

He stressed that proactive steps will be taken to facilitate reenergising and renewing the bond of the NRIs with UP. He said cultural events such as Deep Dipawali in Ayodhya and the Barsana Holi in Vrindavan will be live streamed on the website for the benefit of the NRIs.

Besides, the portal will provide a bouquet of information regarding the investment opportunities in the state, apart from the updates of Tweets from the UP CM’s official handle.

The website will comprise both Hindi and English versions, and provide links to other state government websites, particularly tourism, health, education, MSME and investment promotion.

It will offer online payment gateways for the benefit of the UP origin NRIs, such as the registration, verification and renewal of applications and other formalities.
